With almost a full house for lunch, prepared by the committee, Carew WI members enjoyed a sumptuous repast.

Then they paid attention to Mim who indicated that she was standing down as president and as a committee member forthwith.

Tribute must be paid to outgoing president Mim for 11 years of dedicated service to Carew WI. Her most memorable experiences were leading Carew WI in its many centenary celebrations. Recently she led the branch through some difficult times too - Covid, lockdown, and rebuilding the branch afterwards, was a huge challenge. She has led with fairness and diplomacy throughout, upholding the ethos of the NFWI, “inspiring women then and now”. Thank you, President Mim.

The October meeting continued with the usual reading, sanctioning and signing of the September minutes. The county letter and any connecting business was dealt with including the number of attendees for the Annual Meeting of PFWI on November 22.

Ruth reported back on the number of agencies, ministers etc she had contacted regarding the NFWI resolution Clean Rivers and promised a full report for December’s meeting.

Voting then took place for committee members for 2024 and during the count, the minutes of AGM 2022 were read, sanctioned and signed. President Mim presented her report in which she outlined how much she had enjoyed her years as president. She thanked all the committee and WI members for their support and listed the highlights of her presidency. Secretary Liz also selected some of her best moments, ably followed by Treasurer Julie with the financial report.

Three new committee members were voted on - Edith, Marnie and Bronwen K.

A new president was chosen from the Committee members and from that moment on, Edith became Carew WI President.

Carew WI members welcome president Edith and pledge our support to her. They will help and encourage her in any way we can to make her role enjoyable and fulfilling. Her first duty as President was to lay a wreath on behalf of the members at the Carew Memorial on Remembrance Sunday.
