Upon becoming Deputy Mayor in 2018, Clr. Christopher Walters made a promise to Narberth’s Royal British Legion branch that he would look at investing money into new memorial benches - identical to those in the town of Haverfordwest.

Twelve months on and now as Mayor, Clr. Walters was keen to show off his promise and officially open the memorial bench.

The new bench marks the 100 years since the first two-minute silence was observed on Armistice Day and on Sunday was officially opened by Clr. Walters, with Deputy Mayor, Clr. Sue Rees, Clr. Elizabeth Rogers and members of the RBL, as well as volunteers of community groups in Narberth.

“The bench looks amazing and is a wonderful asset to the memorial setting in Market Square,” said Clr. Walters.

“It was very fitting that the bench should be in position for the town’s veterans to use on Remembrance Sunday.

“The young flag bearers at the cenotaph today will make sure the bench is there for many years to come,” he added.
