The TenFoot Swim Committee is pleased to announce the launch of the 2019 Charitable Fun Weekend, supported once again by main sponsor, FBM Holidays.
To build upon the success of the 2017 long distance swim event, last year the organisers introduced The FootStep Fun Charity Run. Over 500 competitors, of all ages, took part in the scenic fun run from Saundersfoot to Stepaside, whilst 300 swimmers braved the long-distance sea swim from Tenby to Saundersfoot.
To date, the events have raised over £40,000 for nominated Charities and local supporting services, including The RNLI, Tenby Surf Link, Saundersfoot and Tenby’s Sailing Clubs and Pembrokeshire Paddlers, whose services to the community & contribution to the events are invaluable.
2019 sees a further introduction to The TenFoot brand, by introducing the very first, local Swim Run Event.
Following careful consideration and planning over the past eighteen months, a unique 5.5 Mile route has been devised which incorporates the stunning beaches between Tenby and Saundersfoot.
The Pembrokeshire Coastal Path as well as private land has kindly been granted for one off access for the event crossing Waterwynch, Hean Castle Estate, Trevayne Farm Caravan Park, Swallow Tree Woods, Glen Beach and Saundersfoot Harbour.
Swim/Run events are one of the fastest growing sports and The TenFoot Event will complement an already bustling national calendar with our own offering. Whilst recognising a slightly shorter distance, it is an ideal opportunity for people to experience this phenomenal challenge on our local doorstep.
Once again, Pembrokeshire’s natural coastline lends itself to this event with incomparable scenery and unparalleled community support from the people of Tenby and Saundersfoot.
The weekend fun begins in Saundersfoot on the evening of Friday, July 12, with the family ‘Fancy Dress’ Fun Run. Competitors, both young and old will start on The Strand and have the option of 1, 3 and 5 mile closed road distances, taking in the sights of Coppet Hall, The Old Railway Tunnels, Wisemans Bridge and Stepaside Heritage Park.
Entrants will pay £10 for adults and £5 for Under 14’s to take part.
The following day, Saturday, July 13 will see the Swim/Run Competitors set off in pairs, from Tenby Sailing Club, along The North Walk, onto North Beach where they’ll swim just over a mile to Waterwynch Beach.
Minutes later, the long distance TenFoot Swimmers will join the Swim Runners, entering The Blue Flag awarded waters off Tenby’s North Beach heading for Saundersfoot.
The Swim/Runners will exit at Waterwynch Beach and run onto the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path, leading onto private land for a two-mile run before descending onto Monkston Beach where they’ll enjoy at the feed station before re-entering the water.
Having navigated between the rocks and tidal flow at Monkston, swimmers will swim and exit at Swallow Tree Beach before running through the woods for just over a mile to Glen Beach, where they will start the final leg, to the finish on Saundersfoot Beach.
To compliment the fact that this type of event can appeal to the masses, eight well-known local individuals have been paired up to be the first of The TenFoot Swim Runners 2019.
None of these individuals have taken part in an event of this nature and their progress from, ‘Zero to Hero’ will be shared over the next six months, as they share their highs and lows in training and preparing for such an event.
Anyone interested in taking part in any of The TenFoot Events is encouraged to enter via the event’s website at: https://tenfootswim.co.uk
All Proceeds from the 2019 Events will be distributed amongst nominated charities and local supporting services, and the committee are this year proud to announce that the benefitting charities will be the Huntington’s Disease Association, BCRT and the Daniel Bridle Memorial Fund, as well as RNLI, Tenby Surf Link, Pembrokeshire Paddlers, Saundersfoot and Tenby Sailing Clubs for their help volunteering in keeping the swimmers and competitors safe.
Two presentations took place recently, when representatives from The TenFoot Committee, Chris Williams BEM and Anthony Mattick were kindly joined by Tenby Mayor, Sue Lane.
Cheques for £250 were presented to Tenby Surf Link and Tenby RNLI’s Mr. Phillip John, in recognition of the valuable roles they perform within the community and support to The TenFoot Events.
With the help once again of all the sponsors, including main sponsor FBM Holidays, the committee feels that 2019 is going to be the best year ever for the TenFoot event weekend.
