Meetings always begin with the singing of Jerusalem and members enjoyed joining together in song once again.

They then stood in silence in memory of the late Gerald Hicks, whose passing has left the community without one of its local heroes.

Speaker for the afternoon, Chris Taylor, readily agreed to talk to members about climate change and in particular how the nations birds and bees were coping. Chris is our Pembrokeshire National Park Ranger. He outlined the changing bird and bee population in our part of the world and then advised members what they could do to contribute to sustaining them. Chris has years of experience in monitoring our sea and land bird species. He is also passionate about monitoring our bee population and regularly hosts local walks and counts for individuals to participate in. Members were keen to get involved in proving space for wild flower meadows and bug hotels. General observation of flora and fauna when out walking will also be passed onto Chris for his ongoing monitoring of our area.

Chris judged the monthly competition - an item made from recycled material. First prize went to Ruth, second to Rosemary and third to Marnie. The raffle prize was won by Margaret.

Members settled down to their formal meeting after tea. Congratulations were sent to the successful winners of the Rose Bowl competition who will now go on to compete in the Royal Welsh Show later in the year. A crab apple tree will be planted by Carew WI members on the grassed area outside the Memorial Hall. Final preparations were made to the Jubilee celebrations for Friday, June 3. The PFWI County Letter was read and arrangements made for the visit to Llanerchaeron in June. Birthday greetings were offered to Rosemary and Brenda W. for June. In July, the Pisgah sewing group will lead members in an expert crafting session.
