A ‘rainbow fairy’ has continued to spread smiles and brighten up the community in Narberth during the Coronavirus crisis whilst also raising funds for a worthy cause.
What started out as a way to bring some positivity to the community during the pandemic for artist Diana Brook by painting rainbows on windows or glass doors to symbolise solidarity with health workers, has now raised over £550 for Leukaemia UK a charity very close to her heart as her brother has the disease.
To date Diana, who also teaches art at Redhill School has created well over 150 personal designs for windows or doors across the town even for the local police station.
She drew her first rainbow on her Heddfan studio window in St James Street at the start of the month when she and neighbours were out showing their support by clapping for the NHS on a Thursday evening.
Labelled a ‘community champion’ by residents, she even has her own Facebook page the ‘Rainbow Fairy’ after the nickname she was given, whilst children in the town are so excited when the see her coming to their houses to paint the rainbows.
Diana has done so much walking around to get to people with her coloured acrylic pens to create colourful designs that she ended up with blisters on her feet and now goes on from property to property on her bike!
“The Rainbow Fairy aka Diana Brook has been painting rainbows in peoples windows with a message to stay safe and support the Hwyel Dda NHS Trust in these challenging times - she has covered over 65 miles on her bike painting rainbows whilst children and family watch her through the window. Over 150 windows have been decorated with this kindness,” said Wyndham Williams of PAVS.
“If you know of someone who is doing something big or small, let’s celebrate them and share the positives with other communities around the county - message the Facebook page or email [email protected]” he added.
“The people of Narberth have been so supportive - I’ve had some lovely chats through windows, and I even had a ‘thank you’ gin and tonic left on a windowsill,” remarked Diana.
“I think the rainbows are making people smile, and that’s the whole point!”
