Staff and volunteers at Narberth Museum were very saddened to learn of the death of John Tipton.
His involvement with Narberth began in 1987 when the original idea of establishing a museum in the town grew out of annual exhibitions held by the Civic Society.
John’s advice was sought on the setting up and fitting out of a Museum to be housed in the old Courthouse Inn in Picton Place. It opened in 1989.
Gradually, as is often the way, he became drawn into the administration side of things, serving first on the management committee and later as chairman of trustees.
As the museum grew and developed, John continued to play a strategic role in its management and direction.
His input was invaluable and he contributed much time and effort to the design and concept of the new museum which was eventually re-established in the Bonded Stores in 2012.
His support for this project was unwavering and appreciated by all who worked with him. Its success owes a lot to John’s knowledge, experience and commitment.
He will be remembered with great affection and gratitude.
