Sunday, July 25, saw the Rotary Club of Narberth and Whitland in association with Narberth Rugby Club present their ‘Sunday Night Fever’ charity extravaganza in aid of Cancer Research Wales.

Around 400 people attended to enjoy the experience and were rewarded by first-class musical performances from ‘Ella Guru’, a local band from Tenby, ‘Sorted’ a Ska tribute band from Fishguard and, headlining the show, ‘The Bee Gees Experience’.

Ella Guru opened the show with a polished set covering several genres of popular music before passing the stage onto Sorted who really got the crowd jumping with energetic renditions of covers from the original nutty boys, ‘Madness’, together with music from other Ska and Two-Tone favourites including ‘Bad Manners’ ‘The Specials’ and ‘The Beat’.

Finally, just as the sun was starting to set, the stage was lit up by The Bee Gees Experience, a trio from the Midlands, who really got the Otters ground rocking by performing a very professional set of memorable songs penned by the Gibb brothers. Dressed in their white stage suits and with Barry’s hallmark falsetto voice ringing out, it could have been the Bee Gees themselves!

All of the bands were very well received by the appreciative audience, with many of them being unable to resist the temptation to strut their funky stuff recreating the dance moves of Suggs and John Travolta.

Hosting the show and keeping everything flowing smoothly was DJ Steve Briers and his disco roadshow whilst Dave Burger and the Pure Tech Audio team ensured that the sound and lightshows added that extra professional touch. Hungry mouths were catered for by Andrew Rees providing the burgers and a pig roast whilst Narberth and Whitland Rotary provided a vegetarian option.

The idea for the show was the brainchild of N&W Rotarian & Impresario, John Hughes, but it could not have been accomplished so successfully without the help of Rotarian Phil Thompson MBE, John Llewellyn and the team at Narberth RFC, together with Rotarian workhorse Ken Morgan PHF. Thanks must also go to Rotarian Robin Bradbury who was responsible for arranging electrical support, St Johns Ambulance Cymru (Pembrokeshire division), Helen and Mia from Cancer Research Wales together with N&W president Elaine Bradbury (pictured right) and her team of Rotarian helpers.

All in all it was a very successful evening, enjoyed by all who attended and represented an exciting return to live music performance in Pembrokeshire.

Narberth and Whitland Rotary meet every Wednesday evening at The Plas Hyfryd Hotel in Narberth. They are a dual gender club and very active in charitable events both locally and internationally.

They welcome enquiries from potential Rotarians and can be contacted via the website www.nwrotary.co.uk
