Sir,

We are pleased to see letters of support from two people who have served the museum over many years and feel sure they reflect the views of many people of Tenby.

John Tipton was hon. curator for a number of years and wrote several publications on the history of Tenby and Doug Perry, also a former trustee, was a much-valued and active member of our volunteer team for many years.

We can all be nostalgic about the fun of seaside holidays in the mid-20th century when Tenby offered the beach and the museum and a walk round Woolworths; attracting visitors to the museum had few challenges and, unlike today, fewer theme and activity parks vying for the visitors’ attention.

With the passing of time, circumstances, tourist attitudes and economic climates change, altering visiting trends.

Our visitors are now able to reach myriad entertainments that were not previously available in the county, which had a visible impact on visitor numbers to other attractions such as the museum, and also have much more pressure on their pockets.

The steady rise in visitor numbers in recent years is evidence of the hard work of the staff, volunteers and trustees to ensure we offer an affordable 21st century experience for all the family and try to serve the community in a way that is relevant, informative, fun and entertaining.

Over recent years, the museum has introduced many new and appealing facilities and in 2016 we will be offering a World War I exhibition, a variety of art exhibitions, talks, events and storytelling to attract yet more visitors, but one key audience we miss is the local people of Tenby - don’t put it off, come up to see us, buy a ticket and visit as often as you like for 12 months, bringing the children or grandchildren in for free - at £4.95 for an annual ticket, it is some of the best value in the area and with your help we will continue to delight, inform and entertain for many years - our visitors believe that we really are truly memorable, totally magical! Why not pay us a visit and judge for yourself?

Chairman of trustees,

Tenby Museum and Art Gallery
