On Friday, March 20, the Friends of Tenby Museum are teaming up again with ‘Harvey’s Murder Mysteries’ to present ‘Carwen on the Beagle’ at the Giltar Hotel. Twelve months ago, war-time singer ‘Vera Lyn’ made an unexpected visit during the ‘Flower and Produce Show’, but this time people will be able to re-wind another century-and-a-half back, to join a perilous expedition on the high seas.

Darwin has yet to make his historic voyage to the antipodes, but a less well known naturalist bearing a similar name (but that is the only similarity), is testing the patience of everyone on board after living too long in each other’s pockets.

The ship is dropping anchor at Gibraltar, her last port of call, before her triumphal return home, and you, the refined residents of The Rock, are invited aboard to dine with the Captain.

You will be entertained by the sea shanty songsters, ‘Cockles & Mussels’ before you take your seats at the Captain’s Table - but unfortunately - you may find yourselves having to exercise the little grey cells! It seems that a dastardly deed has been committed, and Carwen is no more.

Amid much hilarity, and not a little salaciousness, guests will now have to turn detectives, because the Captain cannot tolerate having a body on his ship! Somebody must find out whodunnit, and there’s even a prize for being the first to do so.

Tickets, inc. a two-course meal, are on sale at Tenby Museum and The Giltar for £25. The evening starts at 7 pm in the downstairs bar (lift available) for 7.30 start.

Optional dress code is formal 1820s (unless you sneak in as crew, or even a pirate).

‘Harvey’s Murder Mysteries’ bought a selection of costumes from ‘Griggles’ when it closed down recently, and are doing their best to follow in Roland Grigg’s footsteps, by offering costume hire.

All proceeds will go to charity (in this case, Tenby Museum). For all sartorial enquiries, at very reasonable rates, please ring 07772 91 31 71.
