On Saturday, B&Q celebrated its official opening with a visit from Simon Hart MP as well as Mayor of Pembroke Andrew McNaughton, on a community-focused launch day.
Entertainment throughout the day, such as a brass band, fancy-dress outfits, face-painting, voucher giveaways and the local radio station roadshow, welcomed customers to the new-look store. Staff also handed out golden tickets to the first 500 customers for five lucky winners to win a £100 gift card to spend in store.
Simon Hart MP was shown around the store by store manager Brett Jones and introduced to the 14 store staff from the former Focus store and the 21 new staff recruited from within the local community.
They included 62-year-old Steve Watts, who is the store's eldest employee, alongside Stephanie Cole, its youngest at just 18. They may be different in age, but they've got one thing in common - they're passionate about DIY and want to help make it easier for all our customers.
It's taken just 10 weeks to transform the store from the former Focus DIY to B&Q, the UK's largest home improvement and garden centre retailer. In that time the store has undergone a period of team bonding, store re-fitting and daily lorry deliveries to get the store ready for opening day.
The store will offer a wide range of home improvement products - from turf to treated timber, shelf kits to shower enclosures and plumbing fittings - all housed under one roof at great value. Real experience and practical advice is also available from the store's team of experts who are on hand to answer questions on any DIY jobs, big or small.
Store manager Brett Jones said: "We're thrilled to have Simon Hart MP officially open the store. The team, made up of existing Focus staff and new recruits, has worked really hard to get the store up and running in under two months. So whether you're a complete beginner or an experienced DIY'er, we have the expertise and products to make any DIY job easier."
