Plans for one of Pembrokeshire’s oldest non-conformist churches to celebrate the 350th anniversary of its formation have been finalised.

The celebrations at Molleston Baptist Church, near Templeton, will begin next month with a sacred concert on Friday, August 18, and will be followed by two special services on Sunday, August 20.

Tickets are selling well for the 7.30 pm concert, which will feature the Fishguard-based singing group Bechgyn Jemima, conducted by Mrs. Marilyn Lewis.

Celebrity soloists will be soprano Catrin Ann Raymond, who has just graduated from the Cardiff School of Music and Drama, and has won competitions at the Urdd National Eisteddfod and the National Eisteddfod.

Baritone Aaron Pryce-Lewis has strong family links to Molleston and will return in September for his final year at the Royal College of Music and Drama, in London.

Tickets for the concert, at £5, are available by telephoning (01834) 219124 or (01834) 813567. They can also be obtained at Nobles Newsagents, High Street, Narberth.

Both Sunday services will be led by the Rev. Simeon Baker, director of mission, with the Baptist Union of Wales.

The 10.45 am service will include a duet by Angela and Marilyn Allen.

At the 4.30 pm service, there will be greetings from neighbouring churches and the Baptist Union of Wales.

A duet will be performed by Mrs. Meirion Morse and Billy Cole. It will also feature harpist Miss Nia Lewis and a film on Molleston through the years.

A celebration tea will be served in a marquee afterwards.

It is believed that the church was formed in 1667, when the first members were baptised.

It is thought the first meetings took place in farm buildings at Lower Roadside, about a mile from the present church, which was opened in 1731.
