Two Pembrokeshire community groups which help young people to improve their self-esteem and confidence have been making improvements to their local environment, thanks to a donation from Milford Haven Port.
The Mount Community Association received funding to purchase materials to create a 'Bodger's Camp' in woodlands near the Mount Estate, while the Tanyard Youth Project in Pembroke secured a donation to revamp their courtyard garden.
Members of the Tanyard Youth Project worked together recently to construct new decking and growing boxes, and gave the area a spring clean resulting in a rejuvenated safe outside environment.
Welcoming the funding, John Heffernan Tanyard Youth Project manager, said: "It was terrific for the young people to be involved in this project and enabled them to take ownership of the Tanyard. We are grateful that MHPA helped to make that happen."
The Mount Community Association's project was based on an open air workshop where people learn the basics of greenwood craft. 'Bodger's Camps' were once familiar sights throughout the UK, but only a handful remain in existence today.
Following The Mount Community Association's successful application to Milford Haven Port's Community Fund, they purchased equipment enabling volunteers to work outdoors, improve their team skills and help boost their overall self-confidence.
Kathy Gray, chairperson of The Mount Community Association, said: "We appreciate the funding and support received from Milford Port Authority for its help setting up the Bodgers' Camp. The site is located in an idyllic area, where all you can hear is the natural environment."
Between September 2011 and March 2012, volunteers dedicated over 1,700 hours to completing the Bodger's Camp.
