Due to heavy flooding this week across Mid and West Wales, the emergency services, with local authorities, have deemed some roads impassable.

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service urge the public to adhere to the road closure and flood warning traffic signs.

Corporate head of protection and prevention Chris Margetts advises: “Road signs are displayed for a reason; following a decision made by the emergency services and your local authorities, who have deemed certain roads and routes impassable due to the adverse weather conditions.

“We have attended several incidents this week where people have chosen to ignore the warnings and pass through the road closure signs, inevitably becoming trapped.

“Not only can flood water do serious damage to your vehicle, but it poses a serious threat to yourself and others when you choose to ignore road closures signs.

“Please remain safe and vigilant over the winter period. We advise listening to the traffic and weather reports as you drive as these messages will often warn of road closures in your local area.

“Do not let an accident dampen your festive season.”

Road safety manager Neil Evans asks of the public: “If weather reports have advised that conditions will be adverse please plan alternative routes and consider against making any unnecessary journeys.”
