Sir,

As Jon Preston, in the same edition of The Tenby Observer pointed out, rumours that 1,000 refugees are to be accommodated in Penally camp are just that, rumours with no substance. Even if Penally camp were to become a refuge for these people, it is extremely unlikely that all 1,000 of the Welsh ‘quota’ would end up in Penally.

Dave Phillips speaks of charity beginning at home, and I am sure that he is a kind and charitable man, but these refugees, for that is what they are, not ‘migrants,’ have suffered the most unimaginable hardships and cruelties, and in some cases have lost everything that for most of us make life meaningful - family members and homes. Charity used to mean ‘loving kindness.’ Surely we have a bit left over to share with these refugees, should they come to our part of Pembrokeshire, and can make them welcome - as we did with the kindertransport during the war.

Jo Tasker,

Tenby
