There is always a lovely atmosphere at the Martletwy Show - this year held on August 22 at Carew airfield where a magnificent £1,256.55 was raised from the event towards Cancer Research UK.
This is a show where locals and visitors come together to admire the skills and abundant talents on display from the handlers of the magnificent animals to the show rings, to the horticultural produce and craft displays of creative and ingenious designs - and of course the ever popular dog show drawing crowds of admirers to those dog lovers who had entered their pets in a variety of categories, causing gasps of delight and amusement as pooches were put through their paces.
Handlers at the show rings ranged from big to small and older to younger, and all most capable.
The weather held and was dry for most of the day - people drifted into the hall throughout the day to browse the various stalls, to which a few new ones had been added this year.
Amongst the stalls was the Cancer Research stall manned by the Carew and Cresswell local committee for Cancer Research and volunteers, who had worked hard to prepare an attractive stall the evening before and then continued their hard work on the day of the show.
Cakes and jams were particular favourites along with books on the day, whilst the Tombola section did good trade as usual.
There were three raffles which proved very popular - a quilt raffle, with a beautiful handmade quilt as the prize was won by Mark Phillips from Hazelbrook Caravan park.
In another raffle a drinks hamper was won by Isobel Owen, a hamper of chocolates by Vicky abd Richard Thomas, and champagne won by Tanya.
In the main raffle the first three money prizes went to Jolie Lewis (£40, Dilys Reach (£25), George Brown (£15 - whilst other prizes went to Russell and Yvette, Pat Robinson, Sandra John, Eileen Philips, Brenda Lawrence, David and Dianne Neil, Dilys Reach, Marjorie Davies, Daphne Davies and Roger, and Pauline Paul. These prizes included - wines, toiletries, chutneys, herbs and spices, and some candles - all generously donated.
The total raised on the day for Cancer Research UK?was £1,256.55 - once again a wonderful and useful amount to be put to this good cause.
Thanks go to everyone for all their hard work and to all those who once again supported the charity.
