Pembroke was fortunate during World War II - it did not suffer the bombings and carnage endured by neighbouring Pembroke Dock. But we have our heroes. Amongst the photographs displayed at our exhibition were the Pembroke Firemen of the Auxiliary Fire Brigade (AFS).
This photograph was given by Reg Williams, whose father was Leading Fireman Sydney Williams. The men in the photograph are (left to right): Herbie Roberts, ?, ?, Leading Fireman Sydney Williams, Mr. Gibby, a visiting Fire Chief (name unknown), Tommy Chiltern, Billy Neil (Waterman's Arms), Ivor Skone, Fred James, George Jones.
It may interest you to know that the fire station, at this time, occupied the ground floor of Pembroke Town Hall.
