Sir, I am disappointed and amazed to learn that Sainsbury’s supermarket is lacking in common humanity and sympathy for the elderly, infirm and ill.
I am a regular shopper in Sainsbury’s Tenby who, with others, is transported on a minibus provided by Pembrokeshire County Council for those unable to access public transport. The minibus provides this service three times a week.
We are dismayed to find that while waiting with our loaded trolleys to be collected by Bert, our trusty driver, the number of chairs on which to sit has been reduced to two or three.
On asking an assistant if a chair could be provided for a lady who was desperately clinging onto her trolley, I was told that apparently Head Office has ruled against providing adequate seating.
I find such instructions inhumane and beyond belief. Even a third world country would surely provide a chair for the disabled. Such a cruel attitude towards customers amazes, horrifies and disappoints me.
To discriminate against the elderly, sick, disabled and inform goes against every Christian principle. This is no reflection on the local staff who are always helpful.
A firm making money out of these disadvantaged people should hang its head in guilt and shame.
May I request, on behalf of myself and other disabled shoppers using this service, that you reconsider the ruling and provide sufficient seating to cover this need.
