The annual meeting of Kilgetty, Begelly Community Council (KBCC) took place at at Kilgetty-Begelly Community Centre last week.

A public participation session took place ahead of the meeting, at which a number of local residents expressed their concerns about land clearance that has taken place behind the Pen-y-Bryn properties in Begelly. KBCC is investigating the matter with the relevant authorities.

The latest news and other main items discussed were:

• Clr. Diane Lockley was re-elected as chair of KBCC for 2019/20. Clr. Jayne Ebrey was re-elected as vice-chair.

• Clr. Diane Lockley and Clr. Sandra Smith were nominated as KBCC’s representatives on the One Voice Wales Area Committee which meets quarterly.

• KBCC has now installed a picnic bench in Miners’ Field, Kilgetty. It has asked Pembrokeshire County Council (PCC) to look at providing a waste bin alongside the footpath in the field. A response was awaited from PCC.

• KBCC has asked PCC to install a horses road warning sign in the rural parts of Ryelands Lane, Kilgetty.

• Remedial work to Kilgetty play area is currently on-going. KBCC’s sub-committee is currently undertaking research into the age range of children that use Begelly play area to ensure that new equipment meets requirements.

• KBCC’s internal auditor for the 2018/19 annual audit has now approved the annual return. Paperwork will now be sent to Grant Thornton LLP, KBCC’s external auditor, appointed by the Wales Audit Office.

• The next Rural Futures event will be held on June 29.

• PCC has agreed to install verge markers in Sardis Road, Kilgetty, following recent tree works.

• Dyfed-Powys Police surgeries continue to be held in the Community Centre, Kilgetty, on the second Thursday of each month between 10 am and 12 noon. KBCC councillors also attend these surgeries to answer any questions and to listen to matters of concern from local residents.

Planning

KBCC considered the following planning application and after discussion made the following recommendation to Pembrokeshire County Council: Retrospective application for the retention of a preformed metal access gate at 5 Maes Elwyn John, Reynalton, Council recommended approval.

County Clr. David Pugh’s Report

County Clr. Pugh provided the following report:

• Folly Farm had now made a Section 106 payment to PCC as part of a planning approval development. This will release funding for pathway improvements (including a new bus shelter) in Begelly.

• PCC’s Environmental Working Group had recently met to discuss increased littering and dog fouling in the county. A further meeting was due to take place shortly but meantime an appropriate awareness campaign was being considered. Several thousand people had already been fined by PCC across the county for littering and dog fouling.

• Changes to PCC’s Waste and Recycling Centres would take place from June 3. General waste bags would be checked at the centres to see if they contain anything that could be recycled on site. Residents would be asked to place any recyclable items in the right containers. Changes to kerbside household waste collections would commence in the autumn.

Next Meeting

The next meeting of KBCC is scheduled to take place on Thursday, June 13, at Kilgetty-Begelly Community Centre, commencing at 7 pm. A 15-minute public participation session is always scheduled prior to the start of full council meetings.
