It’s nearly time again for the 2019 TenFoot Charitable Fun Weekend. Now in its third year the TenFoot weekend, supported once again by main sponsor, FBM Holidays, continues to grow with the TenFoot Swim/Run joining the TenFoot Swim and the FootStep Run this year.
In 2018 over 500 runners of all ages took part in the FootStep Charity Fun Run from Saundersfoot to Stepaside, whilst 300 swimmers braved the long-distance TenFoot sea swim from Tenby to Saundersfoot, including Welsh rugby star Ian Gough who will be competing in the TenFoot Swim/Run this year.
To date, the events have raised over £40,000 for nominated Charities and local supporting services, including The RNLI, Tenby Surf Link, Saundersfoot and Tenby’s Sailing Clubs and Pembrokeshire Paddlers, whose services to the community and contribution to the events are invaluable.
All proceeds from the 2019 events will be distributed amongst nominated charities and local supporting services, and the committee are this year proud to announce that the benefitting charities will be the Huntington’s Disease Association, BCRT and the Daniel Bridle Memorial Fund, as well as RNLI, Tenby Surf Link, Pembrokeshire Paddlers, Saundersfoot and Tenby Sailing Clubs for their help volunteering in keeping the swimmers and competitors safe.
Taking advantage of Pembrokeshire’s natural coastline which lends itself to these events with incomparable scenery and unparalleled community support from the people of Tenby and Saundersfoot, the weekend fun begins in Saundersfoot on the evening of Friday, July 12, with the family ‘Fancy Dress’ FootStep Fun Run. Competitors, both young and old, will start on The Strand and have the option of 1, 3 and 5 mile closed road distances, taking in the sights of Coppet Hall, The Old Railway Tunnels, Wisemans Bridge and Stepaside Heritage Park.
Entry is still open and costs £10 for adults and £5 for Under 14’s to take part, visit www.tenfootswim.co.uk to enter.
The following day will see the TenFoot Swim and the first staging of the TenFoot Swim/Run, which will follow a unique route incorporating the stunning beaches between Tenby and Saundersfoot.
Access to the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path as well as private land has kindly been granted for one off access for the event crossing Waterwynch, Hean Castle Estate, Trevayne Farm Caravan Park, Swallow Tree Woods, Glen Beach and Saundersfoot Harbour.
The Swim/Run starts at the Bandstand on Castle Hill in Tenby with a run down to South Beach where the swim/runners enter the water, they will then exit at Waterwynch Beach and run onto the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path, leading onto private land for a two-mile run before descending onto Monkstone Beach where they’ll enjoy at the feed station before re-entering the water.
Having navigated between the rocks and tidal flow at Monkstone, swimmers will swim and exit will chart a path from Tenby to Saundersfoot around and over the beautiful Pembrokeshire Coast over a distance of roughly 10km, made up of 4km of swimming and 6km running split into 3 swim and 3 run sections.
Taking part alongside the TenFoot Swim/Run the TenFoot Swim will begin with swimmers entering the water from North Beach then swimming to Monkstone Beach (half way point) where they will leave the water for a mandatory safety check and much needed feed station.
Swimmers will then re-enter the water proceeding through the ‘Gap’ in Monkstone Point and then track the stunning Pembrokeshire Coastline to Swallow Tree, The Glen, and then finally finishing on Saundersfoot’s main Beach where a great party atmosphere awaits.
After the swim and swim/run the Harbwr Bar, Saundersfoot has kindly laid on Cawl to refuel the entrants’ bodies while the committee and sponsors will join them in a different kind of refuelling!
With the help once again of all the sponsors, the committee feels that 2019 is going to be the best year ever for TenFoot .
