More than 1,800 athletes from around the worldtook part in the spectacular Ironman Wales event held in the county last Sunday. Once again the 'super-human' triathlon, starting and finishing in Tenby and featuring a 2.4 mile swim, followed by a 112 mile bike ride and finally a 26.2 mile marathon run, provided a tremendous spectacle throughout South Pembrokeshire, with large crowds lining the routes to cheer on the competitors. Seen left are cyclists are in Pembroke's Main Street during the bike ride section of the event, with the town's magnificent castle providing an impressive backdrop. Eventual winners were two Britons, Scott Neyedli and Lucy Gossage, who are also seen on the page celebrating their success as they cross the finishing line. See this week's Pembroke and Pembroke Dock Observer for a full report, more pictures and the reflections of some of the record number of local athletes who took part.
