Sir,
Having been fortunate to have enjoyed robust health throughout my life, consequently I had never been hospitalised or knew anything about them.
On July 13, I had surgery successfully carried out by the consultant, Mr. Salvam, and his team. I was well enough to be discharged for convalesence at my daughter’s home on Tuesday, July 14.
Thursday, July 16, late evening, I became so unwell that is was deemed necessary that I should go to A & E at Withybush Hospital. Upon arrival, I was examined by three doctors, my stomach and chest where x-rayed, before being admitted to a ward, where I received constant care and attention througout the night.
Friday morning I was visited by Mr. Parekh and Dr. Shane Witharage and given a through examination, before being put on a course of treatment. The treatment was administered by highly proficient and skilled nurses of a cheerful disposition.
On Saturday, July 18, I received a visit and examination by the consultant, Mr. Salvam, Mr. Parekh and Dr. Shane Witharage and the treatment continued.
Sunday morning I was again visited by Mr. Salvam and Dr. Shane Witharage and it was decided that I had made such progress that I could be discharged that afternoon.
As far as my personal experience is concerned, I received the highest standard of care, treatment and cheerfulness one could possibly hope for from Mr. Salvam, the consultant, and right across the spectrum of treatment and nursing care.
Withybush Hospital, Haverfordwest, is an excellent example of the high standard hospitals in the National Health Service are able to achieve.
