Tenby and District Lions held a very successful Diabetes Testing day at St Mary’s Church Hall on Saturday.
Of those tested, 10 per cent were found to be above the norm one of which was in the danger zone.
These ten percent were advised to take the results of their test to their doctor.
Diabetes is the world’s fastest growing health epidemic. In the UK alone 2.5 million people are known to have diabetes.
There are an estimated one million people in the UK who have it but don’t know it This is why Lions Clubs International Foundation is making Diabetes one of its new global targets – by making people more aware of the dangers of this condition which will help to reduce the risk of developing this disease..
Diabetes often leads to eye diseases such as retinopathy and loss of sight.
It can also lead to heart attack, stroke, kidney failure and other complications. So Lions world wide are being encouraged to make people more aware of this growing disease.
All those who attended the testing were very grateful for this public service.
A diabetes prevention diet should include three servings of vegetables and fresh fruit each day, limiting the intake of alcohol and red and processed meat and avoiding sugary drinks.
