There was a happy end to a search for a runaway pooch last week after Duggie was found safe and well following a four-day hunt where hundreds of people in the local community joined in.

Duggie’s owner Sarah Parker has thanked all those that offered support and joined in the search after her pet escaped from its home at The Glen in Saundersfoot and then sprinted down St Bride’s Hill, before following a familiar walk route across the harbour and Glen Beach eventually heading into Swallowtree Woods.

Ten-year-0ld Duggie an Eurasier that Sarah adopted from the Many Tears rescue centre two years ago, was found on Friday after a sighting from Liz Lewis at Hean Castle Farm, Sardis, who had spotted Duggie asleep by bales of hay.

An equally exhausted Sarah said that she had more or less given up hope, and was asleep when the phone rang with the latest report of a sighting of Duggie.

Duggie had once again tried to runaway when spotted, but this time was foiled after being caught in some brambles, and that’s where he was when Sarah’s dad Peter and brother James went to pick him up.

“Duggie was so excited to see them, and he’s been fine since he’s been home – eating a whole roast chicken and playing with his toys - he probably thought the whole thing was fun at the time!” said Sarah.

“I just can’t believe the amount of people who wanted to help. It was absolutely amazing and so heartwarming.

“People were searching in the middle of the night, on foot and in their cars, as well as all day – just everybody seemed to be joining in. They were all absolutely wonderful,” continued Sarah who has now set up Duggie’s own Facebook page, joking that she thought he would now need a PA after all the publicity he had acquired.

With Sarah a former teacher at Saundersfoot School due to begin a Masters degree in illustration Duggie could soon go on to be the star of the story once again as her own ambition is to one day illustrate a children’s book!
