Sir,
Can you help me to answer a recent query regarding the identity of some pilots who landed on Amroth beach recently. I was told by a visitor here that a few pilots landed there ‘out of the blue’. Naturally I was amazed and intrigued. as I will explain.
Background - Age 65. I began flying in 1976, virtually self-taught. I progressed rapidly and joined the Welsh team in 1978. With two friends, we pioneered over 30 hills in South and Mid Wales - we were ‘The Three Musketeers’.
I continued flying until the year 2000, but became badly disabled and ceased flying. I lost the use of my legs and a long period of depression ensued. My drinking escalated and I was admitted to Park House in November 2014 with two months to live.
Thanks to the staff, I am alive and kicking and can even walk. It is my intention to fly again. However, I have lost touch with all my flying friends. I am hoping that a reader may be able to help me contact the pilots in question. I think they took off from Marros Cliffs and flew to Amroth. I pioneered those cliffs in 1979 and landed on Amroth beach, quite a day,
Below I have listed many of the hills I pioneered and the first records I set: Marros 1979; Newgale 1979; Preseli Mountain 1980; Freni Fawr 1980; Farmers 1980; Llanstephan Castle 1980; Lords Park 1978; Ferryside 1980; Paxton Tower 1980; Dryslwyn Castle 1980; Pendine 1980; Merlins Hill 1980; Cefn Sidan Dunes 1980; Southerndown 1980; Llangunnor 1980; Pembrey Hill 1981;
There are many more. I crossed the Towy River from two separate hills, Ferryside and Dryslwyn Castle solely by wind power.

PS. At Newgale we were approached by an MOD officer in a vehicle with flashing lights, who told us to stop flying, as we had appeared on radar as ‘UFOs’ and they had scrambled some jets!
