The Police and Crime Commissioner Mr. Christopher Salmon visited Golden Grove School last week to launch the school's project Going Local. The project  aims to give pupils an insight to as many different aspects of Pembrokeshire as possible. Specially designed uniform will be worn by pupils out and about 'Going Local'. Mr. Salmon met with staff from the school, together with PCSO Carla Thomas, who will be accompanying some of the pupils on their learning activities. He also met with some of the pupils who will be taking part in forthcoming residential visit to the National Trust's  Stackpole Outdoor Education Centre and members of the school council who told him about their ideas for the future of Pembroke. Headteacher Les Johnson said: "Being aware of their home area is a valuable part of pupils' development and I look forward to hearing from the pupils about their activities. We are grateful to the Police and Crime Commissioner for making funds available for us to progress with this project."

CRITICAL LESSONS

Under the tuition of Miss Watton, a group of pupils have been learning first aid skills. The pupils were actively engaged in dealing with a 'patient' who had been found unconscious. Working in pairs, they learned and practised putting casualties into the recovery position and how to summon the emergency services to their location. The  first aid sessions are being run as a part of the very popular after-school activities, which include art, choir, film, drama, Urdd,  cycle skills, fun with science and other sessions.
