Wednesday evening (July 25) witnessed the presentation of the Royal British Legion’s Gold Badge to Tenby Branch president, Gordon Prime of Jameston for outstanding service to that organisation spanning more than 60 years.
At a gathering of Tenby Branch members, representatives from the town council together with those from sea and air cadet organisations at the Hazelwell Club, Mr. Tom Brown, Chairman of the South West Wales District of the Royal British Legion made the presentation to Gordon who was delighted to be so honoured with this long-coveted award.
The ceremony, at which the Royal British Legion’s Wales’ Standard was paraded by David Folder of Milton, together with the Tenby Branch Standard by his father, Craig, commenced with a resume of Gordon’s participation in the D-Day landings as a motor cycle despatch rider, and allied advance through Normandy, Belgium and the Netherlands into Germany up until the end of the war; this being read by Branch Treasurer, Paul Waite and then Tom Brown read out the citation which listed the Gordon’s incredible achievements before presenting the award.
