A local councillor and health campaigner is encouraging people to attend a special coffee morning next month to mark the 10th anniversary of the opening of the new Tenby Cottage Hospital.
At Tuesday night’s meeting of the town council, Clr. Mrs. Caroline Thomas, who is also secretary of South East Community Health Network (SEPCHN), told her colleagues of the group’s plan to run a coffee morning at the hospital, on Monday, June 27, to celebrate the opening of the facility.
“Almost 10 years has gone since the opening of the hospital, so we need to show the health board that we appreciate that it is there, and that we will continue to fight for more services!” she said.
“Money raised from the event will go towards the Day Care Centre, so please put the date in your diaries,” added Clr. Mrs. Thomas.
The Mayor, Clr. Laurence Blackhall, said that it would be great to see as many people as possible attending the coffee morning.
The town clerk, Andrew Davies, told members that a letter had gone to the Hywel Dda University Health Board’s chief executive, Steve Moore, asking for a response after councillors had expressed their disappointment that the ‘walk-in’ scheme staged over the Easter period at the hospital may be scrapped.
Mr. Davies said that Mr. Moore’s response had explained that a further meeting with local GP practices had been planned by the Health Board to see what impact the scheme had on services, but that no further decision had been made at this time.
“It semi-allays SEPCHN’s fears that a decision has already been undertaken on the scheme’s future,” said Mr. Davies, noting that he had copied local AMs into the correspondence.
The Mayor asked for a quick response back to state that the town council looked forward to hearing a positive outcome from the next meeting and hoped that it would be held early enough in June so that it was not too late to do something at the hospital for the summer.
