Sir,

No one is more concerned about the seals, whales and all other creatures on our planet than I am and I welcome the new re-cycling scheme as a humane step in the right direction.

But if there were any surviving ancient pigs they would surely look back with nostalgia to the days when ‘pig swill’ was their daily diet.

Mr. and Mrs.?Collins looked after the pig farm on Marsh?Road opposite my cottage and it was a routine for them to collect the food waste from the hotels and it always gave me the heartwarming impression of the pigs tucking into cream cakes and, indeed, a menu to delight, and fatten any pig!

But the days of the pig swill bucket are now consigned to history and their place has been taken by massive leather cases and huge boxes.

My one spare tiny bedroom is now my recycling room.

At first glance it looks as though I am about to pack for a round the world tour, but, of course, filling those huge containers will take many weeks.

And I will only put them out if the collection day is dry so as not to have the damp rotting the bed and carpet!
