Tenby Round Table were delighted to add another event to their programme with the town’s first-ever Soap Box Derby being held last Saturday at the top of the North Beach car park.
The winding course was set-up from the top of the hill, with a jump at the finish. Some impressive speeds and times were set, with seven teams taking part.
Crowds were good for the event, with people turning out to watch the first run at 12 noon, with refreshments and children’s entertainment also on site.
The overall winners of the event were the ‘Flying Friars,’ second was ‘Braan Pearl’ and third ‘the Flying Leek’.
The crowds were also entertained by Lily Rice, who took on the course in her wheelchair to highlight her desire to raise funds for a custom WCMX chair to allow her to compete in the world championships - more details of this can be found on her gofundme page at www.gofundme.com/new-skate-park-wheel-chair
Tenby Round Table chairman, Matt Broadhurst, said of the event: “It was a great event and one we hope to build on in coming years. Special thanks go to the Events Crew for the loan of the barriers and to Valero for providing the red and white safety barriers. I’d also like to thank the members of Fishguard Round Table and the Pembroke Dock soap box derby team for their assistance, along with Wales Event Medical Cover, friends of Greenhill School and Pembrokeshire Photography for their coverage of the event. Also a big thank you to Mr. Phil Stockton for allowing us to use his land to host the event.
“We are very thankful to all those who entered the event with some truly impressive carts in action! I’d like to say thank you to everyone who came out to watch and support the event and as always to the members of Tenby Round Table for giving up their time to run the day.”
Tenby Round Table’s next event will be the Tenby Beer Festival on November 3 and 4, with the Santa Run returning on December 2.
