Recently, a crew of 14 Young Firefighters from Pembroke Dock were involved in a presentation evening to recognise their success over the two-year duration of their participation in this cadet scheme; the scheme is aimed at young people aged between 13 - 16.
During the evening, the Young Firefighters were inspected on parade by visiting senior officers, as well as undertaking practical demonstrations of hose, ladder and general firefighting activity. The Young Firefighters received certificates for emergency first aid, health and safety and scheme completion awards. In addition, they all completed the Duke of Edinburgh bronze award, with some attaining the silver award as well.
Scheme leader, firefighter Paul Dyson, said: "This evening represents the culmination of a lot of hard work, fun, determination and effort by these young people. As well as learning about the work of the fire service, they have been involved in community support events and raising money for charitable organisations."
Paul added: "It's been a delight to be able to work with these young people; I hope that some of the skills we have provided them with will be useful later in life and that they look back with pride on their achievements."
