Payment for local councillors had been advocated by?Pembrokeshire’s Independent MP?Mr. Desmond Donnelly in a speech to London councillors.
The Deputy Chief County Fire Officer, Mr. A. J. Thomas, was presented with a cheque for £300 for the National Fire Service’s Benevolent Fund during the annual Tenby?firemen’s dinner at the Atlantic Hotel. Leading fireman G. Jenkins made the presentation on behalf of members of the Tenby brigade, the money having been collected during Tenby carnival and other functions organised by the firemen over the previous 12 months.
Coxswain of Tenby lifeboat for the previous 11 years, Mr. W. R. Thomas resigned for health reasons. He was succeeded by his former deputy,?Alderman Ivor Crockford.?Mr. Thomas’s resignation brought to an end 33 years distinguished service to the lifeboat institution.
The historic value of Narberth’s castle did not keep the tills of the town’s businesses jingling, a ministry inspector was told at a public inquiry. But opponents of a plan for a camping site at Mill Lane said that it would be detrimental to have coloured tents near the castle ruins and close to a cemetery and church precincts.
