Yes, get ready to travel right around the world with St. Twynnells on their 2011 Rugby World Cup tour.
Fundraisers for St. Gwynog's Church in St. Twynnells will be ready for take-off at 10 am on Thursday, August 18, with stops in Canada, USA, Argentina, Tonga and Samoa, to name just a few, on their way to New Zealand for the World Cup. Then they will travel back, escorting you back home with stops in Fiji, Japan, Russia and many other exotic locations.
'Flight Captain' Edward Morris had the idea to bring the countries of the World Cup to St. Twynnells when he was asked to suggest a way that all 11 churches in the Monkton Rectorial Benefice could come together in a joint venture to raise funds to be placed in a benefice account for emergencies. However, this joint venture did not materialise for various reasons, but by then the people of St. Twynnells were ready to 'fly solo' and now plans are well underway to hold their very own world tour, with the funds going to the upkeep of St. Gwynog's Church.
Thanks to the generous assistance of friends, neighbours and families, they are confident that the festival will be a success.
The flags of each country will be on show, together with some rugby shirts loaned by local Wales international player Jonathan Thomas.
This event will be of interest to all members of the family - the boys, whatever their age, might like the rugby connection, and there will be some fantastic blooms for the girls. There will be lots of holiday memorabilia on show which will provide extra interest to the festival.
'Flight attendants' will be only too pleased to serve refreshments in the VIP lounge throughout the event, which will run from August 18-22 from 10 am to 7 pm.
St. Twynnells held its first ever flower festival in 2007 and this proved very successful. It also staged a Christmas Tree Festival which proved very imaginative, so it is hoped that this festival will be well attended too.
So go 'Fly Gwynog International Airways!'
