Saundersfoot lost one of its best-known artists recently with the passing of Philip Harris, aged 90.

Born in the village, Philip’s family moved to Liverpool when he was seven, but he gave up his career as a business owner to return in the 1960s to paint full-time.

His local scenes and landscapes regularly featured in galleries in the area, including at Colby Lodge and, most recently at the 100% Tenby exhibition at Tenby Museum and Art Gallery last year. His work was also exhibited in Germany.

Philip taught painting at New Hedges and in Tenby, and in 2014 he was awarded a Certificate of Excellent (landscape) by the Royal Society of Limners for his watercolour ‘Sandy Lane’.
