Last weekend saw many records broken during the annual festivities held in Saundersfoot (organised and coordinated by Saundersfoot Chamber for Tourism) as huge crowds gathered in record numbers on the new decking that provided a superb viewing of the brilliant awe inspiring fireworks displays with record numbers of fireworks (provided by Galaxy Fireworks) - one early in the evening at 6.30 pm (Little Bang) for younger people, and one later at 8 pm (Big Bang) for those allowed to stay up a little later.
The night before, despite the very inclement weather, was witness to hundreds of children dressed up in spooky Halloween costumes following the trick of treat trail determined not to have their spirits dampened - thanks to the Wiseman’s Bridge Rowing Club for organising this ever popular event.
There was a record number of entries in the Pumpkin Competition with prizes in four age categories which made the job of Clr. Phil Baker and his wife Ann Baker who were judging the winners particularly tricky.
Biggest number of pumpkins with the over 25’s category having the largest number of entrants! Lots of prizes with four age categories and three winners per category.
New this year was the land train ‘Rosalind’ dressed as’ Funny Bones the Ghost Train’ taking passengers on a trip around the village with spooky tales and songs - which proved to be extremely popular with more passengers during the weekend then in any other two day period during the whole year.
The Bat Trail has been enjoyed by lots of families roaming the village looking for 31 cuddly bats hidden in various shops and businesses.
This very popular free competition has been running all half term week the date for last entries is today (Friday) by 5pm.
Winners will be notified the following day. Entry Forms are available at Dilys Photography, Little and Large Bites, Elements of Pembrokeshire, Phillys Baguette Shop and The Regency Hall.
Saundersfoot Chamber for Tourism had a stall at the event where they were asking the public to support the free activities held over the weekend including the two free firework displays by entering the Saundersfoot Grand Draw.
Tickets are still available and there are numerous fabulous prizes including meals out, overnight stays and much much more.
They are available on sale until December, see SCT web-site www.visitsaundersfootbay.com for more information. Thank you to all those who bought tickets at the weekend, all monies raised will go towards future family friendly events in Saundersfoot.
Comment from the Chair of Saundersfoot Chamber for Tourism Dilys Hackett:
“Despite the yellow weather warning from the Met Office, the weekend was a great success. We were happy to see the sunshine by midday Saturday with the village coming alive with families enjoying the bat trail, the ghost train and the pumpkin competition while waiting for the two fireworks display.
“We were also pleased to see volunteers from other organisations coming together to help support the event and the village.
“We had members of the Amigos (Charity Bike Run), the Saundersfoot Rotary Club, Grace Church and our own Chamber members all getting involved by helping on the night - a great example of the unique community spirit we have here in the village.”
