Councillors in Tenby have been given positive feedback about the town’s recent festive activities, with plans also in place to give the resort’s Christmas tree extra sparkle.
The town’s Christmas Festivities committee and Tenby RNLI joined forces to ‘launch’ the start of the Yuletide season in the seaside resort, with the Mayor, Clr. Laurence Blackhall and Father Christmas arriving in Tudor Square, courtesy of the inshore lifeboat, to turn on the lights of the town Christmas tree in the grounds of St. Mary’s Church.
The event culminated at the De Valence with a family fun night where Father Christmas welcomed children into his grotto.
Speaking at Tuesday night’s meeting of the town council, Clr. Paul Rapi said that the event at the De Valence had received a lot of positive responses from families that had attended, with his colleague Clr. Trevor Hallett also congratulating the organisers of the family fun night and those that contributed to the whole day.
“There were lots and lots of people in attendance and it was a really excellent occasion, which went down brilliantly,” Clr. Hallett told his fellow councillors.
The town clerk Mr. Andrew Davies reported to members that the Mayor was unable to attend that night’s meeting due to illness, but had wished once again to pass on his thanks to everyone involved in the whole event, especially the RNLI lifeboat crew and volunteers at the De Valence.
Mr. Davies said that although the Mayor had said that the town’s Christmas tree looked ‘splendid’ he did ask for proposals to be passed on in his absence to councillors with a suggestion that extra lighting could be purchased that would see the tree illuminated further, after it was mentioned to him in the community that the tree wasn’t as well lit as it could be.
Deputy Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane told members that she felt that this item could not be discussed further, as it had not been included on the agenda for the meeting.
Since the meeting, the mayor has had discussions with the Observer and reported that ‘extra lighting’ had now been authorised for Tenby’s Christmas tree to make it even more ‘spectacular’, following consultation with the town clerk and Tenby’s lighting contractor.
“Tenby is the best and deserves the best, especially at Christmas!” commented Clr. Blackhall.
“This shows that the town council is able to respond quickly to the concerns of residents,” he added.
