JOIN the Cleddau Clean Up between July 23 and 25, pulling Himalayan Balsam from the river at Haverfordwest.
Emma Withers, Pembrokeshire Engagement Manager with the West Wales Rivers Trust, says:
“Balsam, Balsam, Balsam, I bet you’re sick of me going on about it! But not as fed-up as we are about how rife it is across our rivers.
“We have a series of events with focus on the Western Cleddau through Haverfordwest coming up and it would be great to see you join in support.
“Himalayan Balsam is a non-native Invasive species that out-competes our native plants for space and pollinators as well as destroying out riverbanks. Thankfully, it can removed simply by hand pulling it from the ground. So bring your friends, family and work colleagues, as the old saying goes: ‘many hands make light work’!”
Funded by the UK Government, the Cleddau Clean Up Balsam Pull takes place at Priory Saltings Nature Reserve, Haverfordwest, on Wednesday, July 23, between 10am and 2pm; at Town Centre and Bridge Meadow on Thursday 24, between 10am and 4pm and between 4pm and 7pm; and Bridge Meadow on the Friday, between 12 noon and 4pm.
“There is no obligation to stay for the whole event,” Emma adds. “These times just suggest the start and finish points in which I will be present.”
Booking is required, via https://forms.office.com/e/QY3XiMJmDA . After sign-up, further information of a meeting place will be emailed.
