Fishguard Festival of Music has announced the attendance of some of the finest Celtic musicians on the music circuit at this year’s festival, July 18 to 31 at venues across Pembrokeshire.

Welsh Harpist Catrin Finch and Ireland’s fiddle virtuoso Aoife Ní Bhriain, will perform music from their acclaimed debut album at a concert in Bethel Chapel, Fishguard on Wednesday, July 31.

Two-time winners of Best Album at the Welsh Folk Awards VRï will perform at Theatr Gwaun on Tuesday, July 30.  VRï ‘s performers (Jordan Price Williams (cello, voice), Aneirin Jones (violin, voice) and Patrick Rimes (viola, violin, voice) are inspired by the incredible story of a time when Wales’ traditional music and dance was suppressed by Methodist chapels, and, earlier, its language by the Act of Union, VRï shed new light on a vibrant folk tradition that harnesses the raw energy of the fiddle with the finesse of the violin, and the beauty of chamber music with the joy and hedonism of a pub session, all underpinned with powerful vocal harmonies.

The festival will open with a concert in Newport by the Young Music Makers of Dyfed.

The popular Welsh National Opera Orchestra returns to the festival to perform at St David’s Cathedral on Friday, July 19. Conductor Tomas Hanus will lead a programme that will include Bruckner’s Sixth Symphony and the Mozart Clarinet Concerto.

Other artists performing at this year’s festival include the Marmen String Quartet, violinist Jennifer Pike, pianist and festival patron Peter Donohoe, soprano Claire Booth, accompanist Jâms Coleman, the Bute Wind Quintet and the National Youth Brass Band, Choir and Orchestra of Wales.
