WALES’ NoFit State circus celebrates its 40th anniversary with a new production, ‘Carnation’, and amongst the show’s talented performers are Pembrokeshire twins Clementine and Grace Tonkin Wells.
Clem and Grace have gone on an amazing journey - from seeing NoFit State’s ‘Bianco’ at Bluestone as children, to now being part of the company’s flagship big top show themselves!
The twins, who come from Llandudoch (St Dogmaels), were nine years old. “Neither of us wanted to leave - we both vividly remember deciding that circus was what we wanted to do.” They were 13 when they attended a NotFit State youth summer school in Cardiff. They then attended weekly aerial classes at Syrcas Byd Bach run by Small World Theatre in Cardigan.
Recently graduated from the National Centre of Circus Arts in London, the twins hold the Guinness World Record for the longest duration suspended in a foot-to-foot trapeze hold (team of two) for five minutes!
’Carnation’ hurls you into a human rollercoaster of extraordinary, large-scale circus about hope in rebellion. World-class circus, live music and bold cinematic imagery collide in an all-embracing Big Top experience from award-winning director Firenza Guidi.
Grace and Clementine describe the show as “made up of different types of rebellion, individual scenes where the performers can express revolutions of their own identities, but when you watch the show, all of these smaller rebellions come together into a shared experience.”
NoFit State creates bold, daring work that is accessible to people of all ages. Boisterous, audacious and emotional, ‘Carnation’ unleashes jaw-dropping skills and heart-stopping moments of ordinary people doing extraordinary things.
