The Manorbier School Summer Celebration at the village’s Giraldus Centre on Saturday, July 12 is a joyful stand against the threat of closure.

Manorbier CIW Primary School has faced more than its fair share of challenges in recent years—but the spirit of this small village school has never been stronger.

From the devastating fire in October 2022, which forced staff and pupils to relocate to Jameston Village Hall, to the current threat of closure by Pembrokeshire County Council, the school community has stood firm in the face of adversity.

Now, the Friends of Manorbier Primary School warmly invite everyone to a Summer Celebration—an afternoon dedicated to joy, resilience, and the vibrant heartbeat of a school that refuses to be forgotten.

This special event is more than a summer fair; it’s a proud showcase of everything that makes Manorbier School such a vital part of village life. With a wide variety of stalls, workshops, and entertainment, there’s something for all ages to enjoy:

Louis, the colourful legend from Tenby’s Five Arches, returns for one day only to spread summer joy with his iconic ‘Happy Hippy Hair Ties’ creations.

There will be face painting – a classic favourite for the young (and young at heart). Or why not let your imagination shine in a creative Pebble Painting Workshop led by one of the school’s talented pupils?

The Afterschool Club Showcase will give attendees the opportunity to explore the amazing work from Manorbier CIW School’s art, Minecraft, Welsh, and games clubs.

Visit the Manorbier History and Ancestry Display to uncover local stories, including a rare 1821 census—your family roots might just be in there!

There is also the chance to meet the Magpie Baby and Toddler Group team and learn about sessions that support the youngest members of our community. Similarly, Ducklings Corner will afford visitors a playful glimpse into the daily life of the beloved Ducklings Playgroup.

For foodies, there are Fresh Veggies and Recipe Booklets – Take home delicious, family-favourite recipes alongside locally sourced produce. In Café Corner, enjoy a free tea or coffee, then treat yourself to some classic strawberries & cream or a tasty slice from Cleo’s Cakes. Later in the day, hot food will be available to keep the celebrations going.

Outdoors, there’ll be a bouncy castle, traditional games, and— weather permitting—a visit from a local ice cream van.

As the afternoon winds down, gather for a magical performance by acclaimed storyteller Phil Okwedy, before dancing into the early evening with a family-friendly mini disco.

This is more than just a summer gathering—it’s a heartfelt celebration of a school that continues to thrive despite the odds.

Whether you have a long-standing connection to Manorbier School or are simply discovering its story for the first time, your presence helps to honour its role at the heart of the community.

Everyone is welcome. Join the Friends of Manorbier between 2pm and 6pm in celebrating the courage, resilience, and spirit that make Manorbier School so special.
