This September at the Torch Theatre, Milford Haven: Comedian, actor and writer Dave Ainsworth presents his new comedy show - all about the Carry On films, being woke and the town of Woking!
For the purpose of research, Dave stayed in Woking overnight and was “suitably impressed”. He said: “All my shows are designed to educate as well as entertain and therefore the audience should learn things they did not know about me, the actors who were in the Carry On films and the town of Woking.”
But why is Dave such a fan of the Carry On films?
“I’m a fan of the actors in the Carry On films and consider them to be underrated as performers. The Carry On films still stand up as comedy vehicles. I'm not alone in loving them. Last year, I attended a Carry On conference and there were hundreds of people there,” explained Dave who describes his show as ‘saucy, silly shenanigans.’
And who can forget the wonderful, memorable performances by Sid James, Kenneth Williams, Charles Hawtrey, Joan Sims, Kenneth Connor, Peter Butterworth, Terry Scott, Bernard Bresslaw, Hattie Jacques, Barbara Windsor, Jack Douglas and Jim Dale? The actors of films like Carry On Sergeant, Carry on Teacher, Carry on Nurse, Carry on Constable, Carry on Camping and Carry On Up the Khyber, have brought smiles to so many faces.
But is it possible to be ‘woke’ and still love the Carry On films? Dave certainly thinks so. His understanding is based on copious research. “Wake up and smell the comedy!”
Carry On Woking by Dave Ainsworth can be seen on the Torch Theatre stage on Friday, September 12 at 7.30pm. For tickets and further details, visit the website, www.torchtheatre.co.uk, or call the Box Office on 01646 695267.
