New Life Church

I love old black and white films, says Garry Emlyn. The judge holds the verdict on a piece of paper, if he puts a black cloth on his head it means death! The verdict is in, guilty means condemnation, not guilty means freedom.

Are you nervous about meeting God? He will be our judge. God likens people to sheep or goats; sheep follow the shepherd’s voice, but the goats do their own thing, stubbon and butting people! Are you a sheep or a goat? If you have a list of good deeds it won’t save you, you must have faith. It’s faith that saves you. Faith in Jesus is what counts. Every word will be accountable, Jesus pays for them all.

You can have theories, philosophies, and religion, they won’t save you, only Jesus can. The Gospel is offensive, Hell is an unpleasant message. The True Light comes into the world, Jesus, but many people prefer the darkness. People don’t want their deeds exposed, some love these wrong deeds but dont want consequences.

Good news for those who follow Jesus, you’ll walk in the light, you’ll be changed, saved. You’ll feel the need to pray, sing and share the good news.

The clock is ticking - it’s time to pick a side, life or death? There are consequences, will you turn your back on God and be locked up in eternal darkness, hell, or will you choose Jesus and be free today?

Hebron Baptist Church

If we take time during Lent to read one or more of the Gospels and consider all that the Lord Jesus did during the three years of his ministry here on earth, we will become aware that his ministry was to all people, the poor and rich, the lonely, and the confident and successful. His ministry was and still is to anyone in need of any kind bodily, mentally, or spiritually. His love encompasses everyone.

There is no point in pretending to be other than our true selves because the Lord sees and knows everything about every one of us.

Whilst Jesus knows who and what we are he also sees what we can become. Selfless not self-seeking, giving and forgiving, not grudging in the way we live day by day. Even in our worst times and most difficult days he is ready to help us. His love is unending.

In the first three chapters of Mark’s gospel Jesus demonstrates how all-encompassing his love is, as he chooses his disciples from different walks of life, successful fishermen to cheating, despised tax collectors. The Pharisees, proud teachers of the law, criticized and despised him for eating at a tax collector’s home and for ‘working’ healing a man’s hand on the Sabbath.

Jesus restored people in mental anguish, an old lady who has become sick, many with various diseases, leprosy, and paralysis. There was no pretence, just simple acceptance by faith.

HOLYROOD & ST TEILO’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, Tenby

The readings for Lent are chosen very carefully. The first readings work through the history of salvation, starting with the story of the fall of Adam and Eve. Rather than being a history of what happened long ago, it is an analysis of what happens to us every day; how we are subtly tempted to go against what we know are the divine commandments for a happy life. When we fall, God does not desert us, of course, but promises us an assurance that evil will be conquered, if we turn to him in trust and in faith, acknowledging our sinfulness, and seek his forgiveness.

St Paul (Romans 5:12-19) sets out with clarity the process by which evil was overcome. Just as Adam, the representative of humanity, turned away from God, and by his disobedience set humanity on a course leading to disaster, so Christ, by his supreme act of loving obedience, turned back the course of human destiny. No longer are we on a path to destruction, but on a path to salvation.

Lent is a time for each of us to examine the relationship between ourselves and our Creator. Like Jesus in today’s Gospel,, we too are tempted. If we are not tempted in life, then there is no life within us. Overcoming temptation is a struggle, but it is a struggle which gives opportunity for us to deepen and strengthen our relationship with the Lord.

Masses from St Teilo’s and Parish events can be viewed on-line from the parish website www.stteilostenby.co.uk. and in the Parish Newsletter. Tel. 01834 84269.

St Johns Church, Tenby

Rev’d Adrian Davies led the morning worship at St Johns, his theme was the temptations that Jesus had to endure, written about in the gospel of St Matthew, chapter 4, verses 1-11. Adrian asked about the things that tempt us and what people had given up for lent; the answers came back from the congregation that they had given up chocolate or cake. After the 40 days and nights that Jesus was in the desert he would have been very hungry; the devil tempted Jesus to turn the rocks into bread, but Jesus stated that bread - representing any of the materialistic things that we all value so much - is of no importance, compared to the word of God, for God’s message through Christ is what will truly sustain us.

Adrian encouraged the congregation to resist the temptations of the world and to follow Jesus in faith and humility, praising God in their acts of kindness to others.

Today, Wednesday March 1, St Davids day – Coffee morning with fresh Welsh cakes. Thursday evening, 7pm – Grand Concert with four local choirs in the St Johns Church, free admission with any donations to PATCH please. On Friday, February 3, 2pm many will gather at the Salvation Hall for the World Day of Prayer. On Saturday, many will be involved with the Tenby and District Arts Club coffee morning in St Mary’s Church House. Next Sunday, March 5, morning worship with communion at St Johns will be led by the Minister Rev’d Stella Hayton. Everyone is always welcome at St Johns.
