This August, Narberth invites families and creatives to step into a day filled with Welsh myth, tradition and summer folklore, as SPAN Arts presents Dydd Gŵyl yr Haf, a vibrant bilingual festival.
On Saturday, August 30, Dydd Gŵyl yr Haf offers an enchanting mix of storytelling, hands-on workshops, and cultural celebration, all inspired by the traditions of the Tylwyth Teg, the Welsh fairy folk – and the wisdom of summer herbs and legends passed down through generations.
At the Scout Hut, 2-5pm, families will be welcomed into a joyful, relaxed space brimming with imaginative activities, from craft-making inspired by local folklore to captivating storytelling and a playful treasure hunt. The emphasis is on connection, to each other, to nature, and to the stories that shape our sense of place. This event is open to all ages, with entry available on a pay-what-you-can basis.
Meanwhile, just a short walk away at the SPAN Arts building, 1.30-4pm, artist Ffion Taverner will lead a Natural Dyeing Workshop for adults. This calm, creative session invites participants to explore traditional dye techniques using flowers and herbs, many of which can be found growing in our own gardens. The workshop weaves together artistic practice with an exploration of seasonal Welsh plant lore, offering a quiet but powerful moment of connection to the land and its stories. Entry is £5 or more.
Dydd Gŵyl yr Haf is a celebration of culture, creativity, and community, a day where everyone is welcome to explore the richness of Welsh summer traditions in a relaxed and inclusive setting. With refreshments available at both venues and bilingual delivery throughout, this is a day that invites you to pause, play, and rediscover the magic of the season.
