Tenby Blues Festival
This weekend, November 18 to 20, there will be a Blues Trail happening around town. This involves lots of the pubs and restaurants having a blues concert. They are all free to attend, and a leaflet showing where they all are is available at the De Valence – where you can also find the box office for the paid-for concerts - these are at the De Valence, Church House and the Giltar Hotel.
Tenby Arts Club presents George Gershwin and Cole Porter Songs
Today, Friday, November 18, Tenby Arts Club is pleased to have a special concert on. Tony Jacobs and Jim Barry are giving an evening of songs from the songbooks of George Gershwin, Cole Porter and other great songwriters. This should be an excellent evening. It starts at 6pm in St Johns Church itself. Please note, entry costs will be more than usual as this is something special…
Next Friday, November 25, the St Mary’s Church Handbell Ringers will present a concert, in St Johns Church Hall at 6pm and at the usual entry cost. Everyone is welcome to both of these concerts.
Stir Up Sunday
Sunday, November 20 is the last Sunday before Advent (the period of time people traditionally prepared for Christmas), and is the day that people made their Christmas puddings. Everyone had a go at stirring the bowl with all the dried fruit and other ingredients in and as they did, they would make a wish for the year ahead. You can make a Christmas pudding, and instead of boiling it for hours, you can cook it in the microwave oven very quickly. Try it and see!
Poetry in the Park
Also on Sunday, November 20, at 3pm, Poetry in the Park will hold their monthly gathering. As it is winter, it will actually be in The Old Chapel in Lower Frog Street. Everyone is welcome to come along – you can bring your own poetry, bring along a piece of poetry that you like, or come along to listen to what other people bring.
Leaf Confetti
Before the autumn leaves all go to mush, collect some to make confetti with. This is much better than using plastic bits, and it lasts for months. Find leaves in as many different colours as you can. Put them between sheets of newspaper and then squash these under a pile of heavy books. Leave them a week to dry out. Now get a hole punch and punch out lots of little circles from the leaves. Collect these together in an old jam jar or another pot with a lid. Keep them safe for when you need some confetti. Put the leftover bits of leaves out on a piece of earth somewhere so they can biodegrade and help to make good soil for growing on.
World Hello Day
Monday, November 21 is the 50th World Hello Day! This is a good time to say hello to at least 10 people that you come across during the day – maybe people that you know a little bit, but wouldn’t normally talk to – who knows, they may really appreciate it.
Films4Tenby presents ‘Top Gun: Maverick’
On Tuesday 22, Films4Tenby will be screening the new Top Gun movie at 7pm, doors at 6.30pm. There is an entrance cost, and you can also book for a pre-screening two-course meal at the Fuschia Caffe, contact them directly.
American Thanksgiving Day
Thursday, November 24 is the day that Americans remember the first year that the settlers in America celebrated the harvest with the local American tribe, the Wampanoag. They generally celebrate now with a turkey dinner, and it is a vey big celebration in America. They often have street parades, and lots of people head for home over the weekend to celebrate together. Why not see if you can make a list of all sorts of things that you are thankful for, - can you think of something for each letter of the alphabet?
Warm Rooms
These are happening all over Tenby and Pembrokeshire, so it will need lots of people to make use of them all, so that they are all a success! You could go along for a cup of tea just to chat to the organisers and encourage them to keep going. You could go to the Warm Room in Augustus Place on Fridays for two other things. In the mornings, Sam Skyrme—Blackhall is going to try and be there so you can have a ‘Cuppa with a Councillor’. In the afternoon, you could try Boccia and Kurling. They are sports for all abilities – you can play seated or standing, and it is great fun.
Christmas Festivities
On Saturday, November 26, Father Christmas will be arriving in Tenby on the Lifeboat Launch at 4.30pm and heading up to Tudor Square for the switch on of the Christmas Tree lights at 5pm. If you would like to join the parade, come along to the De Valence Pavilion in Upper Frog St between 2 and 4 pm and make a jam jar lantern to light your way. Materials provided, but it would be great if you could bring a jam jar. Fancy dress would be great too. There will be things happening in Tudor Square from 1pm including the Kelly Williams School of Dance, Emma Sax, the Salvation Army Band, the Tenby Friendship Club Carollers and the cast of Vision Arts Frozen Juniors. Come along and get in festive mood!
