Sunday's service started with a time of praise and worship with songs selected by members of the church.
Pastor Jonathan shared this week on Abraham and Isaac, and how their story is a picture of what Jesus did for us on the cross. Jonathan read out the account in Genesis of how Abraham had faith in God's promises. God had promised Abraham a son, and that his descendants would be as numerable as the stars.
At the time, both Abraham and his wife were way beyond child bearing age, but despite this, Sarah, Abraham's wife, became pregnant and gave birth to Isaac.
God later tested Abraham, to see the genuineness of his faith, and provided a picture of what Jesus would do for us. He asked Abraham to give up his son, as a sacrifice. But Abraham knew that God had promised that he would have descendants, and that Isaac was a gift from God. He obeyed, and at the last minute, an angel of the Lord stopped Abraham, and acknowledged the genuineness of Abraham's faith, and then provided a Lamb to be sacrificed in Isaac's place.
This is a picture of what God did for us, we are sinners, and deserve to pay the price for our sin, but God provided a Lamb, Jesus, to take our place, and pay the price, and all we have to do is repent from our sin, and ask Jesus into our lives, and our debt will be paid.
