Last Sunday, Emmanuel had a special and action-packed service, which featured a marriage blessing for Kate and Wayne Dowzell, songs of praise - where members of the church chose a song/hymn they would like sung - a great sermon from pastor Jonathan Fiddy, and then a church buffet meal after the service which was greatly attended and enjoyed!

Pastor Jonathan spoke on Babel, the pride of man, continuing his sermon series on 'key landmarks in the Bible'. Throughout the Bible, the key, and most common downfall of man is pride.

This was actually the first recorded sin in the Bible, where Lucifer (Satan) wanted to be greater then God. This resulted in him being cast out of heaven.

Man's pride says 'I am self sufficient, I have no need of God'.

He builds up his own life, labours greatly, but it is all in vain unless God is in the centre. Even Jesus said 'I only do what I see the Father doing,' and famously in the Garden of Gethsemane, while Jesus waited to be taken away to be crucified, he cried out to God 'Not my will be done, but thy will'.

Finding God is about humbling yourself before Him, acknowledging that you would not even be here if it was not for Him, every breath you take, every minute you live is a gift from Him.

The Bible tells us that all have come failed and come short of what God requires of man, but if you repent, you accept Jesus as the saviour and price for your sin, that you can know God, and experience a relationship with Him, both here on Earth, and in eternity to come.
