A Guide Dog fan from Pembrokeshire proved she had a head for heights when she took on her latest fundraising challenge.
Elly Morgan, who lives near St David’s, raised £156.50 for Guide Dogs Cymru by abseiling 80ft down the walls of Pembroke Castle.
Her previous exploits include horse trekking in Mongolia and the Rockies, and walking the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path.
Elly said getting to the top of the castle on foot was far more daunting than coming down on the rope.
“I abseiled more than 30 years ago, but this time it was a challenge to climb the stone spiral steps,” she said.
“I was out of breath when I reached the top. I looked over the edge and thought abseiling down would be easier than tackling the stairs again!
“Climbing over the edge was quite a challenge but I’m so glad I did it. There was an amazing view from the top and over the moat.”
Elly, a former project worker for Pembrokeshire Blind Society, is now busy in the community encouraging creative talent. She was inspired to fundraise after meeting Saundersfoot guide dog owner Eva Rich and her black Labrador, Oyster.
“Eva and Oyster are a great partnership, but Oyster will be coming up for retirement soon, and I wanted to help ensure that Eva gets another dog,” said Elly.
“By fundraising, people can keep the training process going, so that pups are brought through and paired with the people who need them. I’m going to do another abseil in June, but this time I’ll be wearing a dog suit.”
