Stepaside CP School pupils and staff made a colourful contribution to funding last week when they held their first ever Rainbow Run.

Organised by Mrs. Blewitt, class teacher at the school, the event involved the whole school community and beyond.

Pupils busily gathered sponsorship from their family and friends and all pulled together to raise in excess of £ 3,000.

Fantastic prizes for the highest fundraisers were donated by Bluestone, Broadway Mansion, The Carpenters, Laugharne, and the Co-op Kilgetty and Mr. and Mrs. Blewitt.

Further prizes from 1 Formula Fitness and Twisted Tangles, of Kilgetty, were added to Easter goodies donated by staff and parents for a raffle which was drawn on the afternoon of the run.

Friends of Stepaside School manned a stall on the afternoon where a variety of colourful refreshments were available.

Donations of fruit were received from Mr. and Mrs. Pearce, Pendine fruit and veg, and these were added to rainbow cupcakes made by staff and parents. The stall was manned on the day by Miss Clare Flynn, Mrs. Joy, Phillips, Mrs. Nataliya Ardern and Mrs. Tippet-Maudsley.

The sun smiled on us all afternoon as runners turned out in their white t-shirts, colourful accesories and sunglasses to take part.

Mr. and Mrs. Ardern donated extra sunglasses for the runners to wear.

The Rainbow run kicked off at 1.30 pm with pupils and parents gathering in the centre of the school field. Running through a colourful balloon arch and showered in powder from the starter cannons, runners set off around five circuits of the school field.

At stations around the track, staff and governors scattered a rainbow of colours over the competitors.

Each pupil runner was pesented with a beautiful rainbow run medal, inscribed with the name of the School and the date of the run.

“We are overwhelmed by the support we have recieved to make this event possible,” said Mrs. Chandler-Hall, acting headteacher

“From the generosity of the sponsors to the local companies for their support and even the powder supplier for their amazing help and advice.

“We never dreamed we would raise so much money and we are delighted to have surpassed our target.

“We are so grateful to the many sponsors that the children signed up and for their generosity.

“The aim of the run was to make a contribution to our fundraising pot for new computers for the pupils and we have achieved that aim, and some!”

Prizes for the top fundraisers were awarded to: Theo Scourfield, Phoenix Phillips, Ffion Harries and Eva Blewitt. Runners up were Noah Reynolds, Cody Glanville and Logan Hall, Ffion Williams, Tyler Jones, Morgan Chinsammy, Tia Blewitt, Madeleine Platt, Bethan Thomas and Kai Blewitt.

“This was a perfect end to a busy term and we are very grateful to all of our supporters,” said Rosemary Tippet-Maudsley, chair of governors.

“Events like this help to pull the community together and celebrate the fantastic efforts of all of our pupils.

“We would like to extend a huge thank you to staff, pupils and parents for their hard word work this term,” she added.
