A school in Pembroke has received a boost after receiving a financial donation from a leading housebuilder.

Lamphey School is the latest beneficiaries of Persimmon Homes’ Community Champions scheme, after being handed £500 to improve its outdoor area.

Each month Persimmon Homes donates up to £2,000 to community groups within the operating area of its West Wales regional office in Penllergaer.

This also happens across Persimmon’s other 30 operating areas, meaning up to £60,000 is dished out every single month – a total of £720,000 a year, and more than £2million since the scheme started back in 2015.

Beth Power, of Lamphey School, said: “We are thrilled to receive this generous donation from Persimmon Homes.

“We are currently fundraising to improve the outdoor area of the school. We’ve already installed a science workbench and now we want to add further science resources to encourage our pupils who are interested in STEM subjects.

“It’s fantastic to see a huge business like Persimmon taking an active interest in our little school.”

Sharon Bouhali, sales director at Persimmon Homes West Wales, said: “We are delighted to be able to help good causes with this money.

“We have donated thousands and thousands of pounds to charities and groups in our area – and we’re not stopping now.”
