There have been smiles all around the school over the past two weeks. The school, is a regular host to the team from the Designed To Smile service, a NHS dental programme funded by the Welsh Government helping children to have healthier teeth. Pupils have check ups in the fully kitted dental van which visits as part of the school programme on oral health. Classes are given advice on regular brushing and the avoidance of tooth damaging foods.
The smiles have not been confined to the dental service. Classes have been eagerly following the progress made in the rugby World Cup. The countries of the visiting nations has prompted learning across the world with an understanding of the geography of the countries involved. The progress of the Welsh team has been the cause of many happy faces around the school.
Sport is an important part of school life, the playing fields have become a busy place for all kinds of activity. Cricket coaching has given way to rugby and football training, alongside cross country and netball. We have gained notable honours with our boys team recently taking first place in the Urdd football competition in Tenby, our girls also performed very well with a very creditable third place.
As the days draw shorter, we have seen the after school clubs run apace, jackanory, cookery, Welsh beginners and art are all fully subscribed and further activities will follow.
Headteacher Andrew Williams said: “We have a wonderful range of extra curricular activities on offer, they are vey popular with the pupils and add value to their daily learning. I am grateful to my staff for making these happen.”
