A number of Pembrokeshire Learning Centre pupils are celebrating success in the GCSE examinations.
The pupils at the Neyland facility receive specialist teaching and wellbeing support due to their individual needs. These range from mental health, anxiety, behaviour or learning needs.
Were pupils not to receive this specialist teaching and support they would continue to show little or no engagement with their education.
They would certainly not gain many - if any qualifications - at the end of their Year 11.
One Looked After Child pupil - previously in a residential care setting who came to the centre in Year 10 - gained seven GCSEs, including a ‘B’ grade in Health and Social Care.
She now has a range of qualifications and certificates to add to her portfolio and has been granted a place in Pembrokeshire College.
Another pupil, with a less than 20 per cent attendance record in mainstream education, received 1A, 2B and 2C plus a range of other qualifications. She has been granted a place in Coleg Sir Gar in Carmarthenshire.
In all, twenty Year 11 pupils gained 65 GCSEs.
The majority are awaiting their BTEC qualifications and have gained the relevant certificates and qualifications to help them on their journey into Further Education and/or employment.
